Description

SRC Pregnancy Leggings support the muscles in your pelvis with gentle compression.  This compression promotes better core and pelvic stability – areas so easily affected by pregnancy.  Graduated compression may also help prevent the development or worsening of varicose veins.  It prevents the blood pooling, increasing blood circulation and therefore helping the symptoms of varicose veins and swollen legs.

The anatomically designed support panels fit with your natural curves, delivering consistent gentle medical grade compression.  You will experience an exceptional fit, and maximum support, without feeling restricted.

The reinforced gusset design provides maximum support to your perineum, reducing symptoms of vulval varicosities.

SRC Pregnancy Leggings feature a proprietary luxurious fabric and breathable power mesh lining. These fabrics are independently and scientifically tested. Test results show that our fabric and its construction is not only of the highest quality but it consistently delivers continuous gentle graduated compression over time. To achieve this, high performance fabric panels are cut in multiple planes to provide multi-directional stretch performance which means that SRC compression garments retain their stretch and strength characteristics longer than some leading sports performance brands.

More comfortable than pyjamas, SRC Leggings are perfect to wear to bed.  You will get a better night’s sleep while they provide the necessary support to minimise the effects of pelvic pain.

SRC Pregnancy Leggings and your Health Fund

You may be able to claim the purchase through your health fund.

Many private health insurers in Australia will provide a rebate to customers who purchase an SRC product as they are considered a medical compression garment, designed to aid with the recovery and health of expectant and new mothers.

To claim your rebate simply print the rebate form (PDF) and take this to your health care provider such as your MD or GP or specialist, and ask them to fill in the details and sign. Once the form is completed, send the rebate letter and your invoice to your private health insurer.

Your product may be claimable under one of the following categories: Aids and Appliances, Orthoses, Splints, Medical compression garments.

Please note: not all private health insurers/plans offer a rebate and we recommend talking to your fund/plan to see if it applies to you.

SRC Pregnancy Leggings and Varicose Veins

*Please note: SRC Pregnancy leggings have a gentle level of graduated compression in the legs. These are suitable for women with mild varicose veins or swelling. This product will not provide enough compression for moderate or severe varicose veins of the legs. Women often complain that wearing a grade 2 or 3 compression stocking for long periods can be difficult due to them becoming hot and tight. The SRC Leggings were designed with a specific level of compression so that women can wear their compression stockings under the SRC Leggings for a number of hours during the day. Once the compression stockings have been removed the SRC Leggings will continue to provide mild graduated compression so the benefit of having worn the stockings is not lost.

SRC Pregnancy Leggings Case Study

From the SRC Health website:

Mary is 28 years old and pregnant with her first child. She presented at 34 weeks with right sacroiliac joint* (SIJ) pain, unable to lie on right side in bed, pain aggravated by rolling over, getting in and out of the car and going up and down stairs. Mary lives in a townhouse over 3 levels so this was a significant impact on her activities of daily living (ADL’s).

She had been participating in pregnancy exercise classes 3 times per week and symptoms had commenced following a class and were further exacerbated by the next two classes. She ceased attending further classes 1 week prior to seeking treatment.

She had a trouble free pregnancy until that time with no previous history of pelvic girdle pain (PGP) or lower back pain (LBP). Mary had a right knee reconstruction at 18 years of age with no other significant medical history.

On examination she demonstrated right SIJ ligamentous laxity* and poor muscle control of the pelvis. Active straight leg raise (ASLR) test was weak and improved with compression applied externally to the pelvis.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefit of pelvic stability re-training for pelvic girdle pain along with studies showing the effectiveness of using external compression for pregnancy related PGP. (nilsson-wikmar et al 2005, stuge et al 2003, vleeming et al 2002, 2008).

Compression devices appear to work by providing mechanical support for the pelvis and also by improving the action of the stabilising muscles via improved proprioception which increases their activation. This has been demonstrated in research around the peripheral joints (knee and ankle) and is thought to be similar around the trunk.

Compliance with external compression devices is often an issue when client’s work involves sitting as the device is often too broad to be comfortably worn while sitting – Mary had a desk job so the decision was made to use the SRC Pregnancy Leggings as the form of external compression along with clinical pilates based rehabilitation of the muscles around the pelvis.

Within 2 weeks of wearing the SRC Pregnancy Leggings and commencing clinical pilates Mary was completely pain free with all activities of daily living (ADL’s), she also reported that wearing the SRC Pregnancy Leggings was very easy. Her pelvic instability on testing was reduced significantly and the alignment of her right lower limb and pelvic girdle also improved.

She continued with her clinical pilates and wearing her SRC Pregnancy Leggings until 39/40 gestation and had a healthy 9lb boy, Oscar.}

SRC Pregnancy Leggings Size Guide

For best results get someone other than yourself to measure you as sizing is critical to the performance of the garment.

Please use the chart below to determine your perfect fit for all SRC Women’s garments.

SRC Recovery Shorts -> Find Your Size

Measure in your underwear only. Stand with your heels together and keep the measuring tape straight. Place the tape over your hips, pubic bone and bottom at the fullest part. The tape should touch your body at all points but not be pulled tight.

We advise you measure and order your SRC Pregnancy Shorts and Leggings during the 12-15 week of pregnancy or when you begin to feel discomfort and pain or as advised by your healthcare practitioner.
